Rest in peace; rise in glory
22 Sep 2022 • From Bishop Richard Jackson
As we leave behind the period of National Mourning for our Late Queen Elizabeth, Bishop Richard reflects on the hope of life eternal offered to all who trust in Christ. He says: "We find it very difficult in our culture to stare death in the face. We resort to euphemism and talk instead of someone passing away and an aspiration of heaven. There's a danger that these well-meaning aspirations for someone who has died become detached from the Christian hope thay has inspired them."
"But if we believe in eternal life, what shape does that life take?"
In and through the resurrection of Jesus, "we find a vision of absolute peace and security, where we are cared for and our deepest needs are met going into eternity. Here is a place where death itself, the cause of all grief and the long shadow that we must all deal with, is done away."
